Lichens :
-
Symbiotic association between algal component (Phycobiont) and fungal
component (mycobiont). Algae provides food. Fungi provides shelter and
absorb nutrients and water from algae.
-
Good pollution indicators as they do not grow in polluted areas.
Hope it helps!!

SYMBIOTIC ASSOCIATION BETWEEN ALGAL COMPONENT ( PHYCOBIONT) AND FUNGAL COMPONENT ( MYCOBIONT) IS LICHEN.
LICHENS DO NOT GROW IN SO2 POLLUTED AREAS.
SO , IT'S INDICATOR OF SO2 POLLUTION.
ALGAL component contains chlorophyll but unlike green plants FUNGAL COMPONENTS do not contain chlorophyll. ...
In association fungal partner is member of ascomycetes whereas
blue green algae found in lichens are :-NOSTOC , SCYTONEMA, ANABENA, RIVULARIA.....etc
