Bhutan has a dragon on its flag. Traditionally the sound of thunder in many mountains and valleys of Bhutan is believed to be the voice of dragons and the country in known as "Land of The Thunder Dragon" in its native language. The exact date of the introduction of this flag is unknown but it may have occurred in 1971 when Bhutan joined the United Nations. Before that Bhutan's isolation and lack of a sea coast limited the circumstances, under which a flag was required.
