We can define atomic radius as the measure of the size of the atom.

The trend for atomic radii in the periodic table is given as:

- On going down the group, the atomic radius increases.

- On going left to right along a period, the atomic radius decreases.

- So the biggest radius is found at the bottom of the group and at the extreme left in the period.

Ionization energy may be defined as the amount of energy required to remove an electron from an atom.

The trend for ionization  energy in the periodic table is given as:

- On going down the group, the ionization  energy decreases.

- On going left to right along a period, the ionization  energy increases.
