Let length be x and breadth be y

(x+2)(y+2)=xy+38. (First equation)

(x+3)(y-3)=xy-18. (Second equation)

Then solve for answer

x=3 and y=7

Answer:

Let Length of rectangle be x and breadth be y

and area be A,

such that A = x × y

From First statement ,

A + 38 = (x+2)(y+2)

A + 38 = xy + 2x + 2y + 4

A + 34 = xy + 2x + 2y

A + 34 = A + 2x + 2y

x + y = 17 .....(1)

From statement 2 :

A - 18 = ( x + 3 ) ( y - 3 )

A - 18 = xy - 3x + 3y - 9

A - 9 = xy -3x + 3y

A - 9 = A - 3x + 3y

x - y = 9 ....(2)

(1)+(2)

2x =26

x = 13

y = 13 -9= 4
