because :- A substitutional solid is one in which atoms of a different atom occupy the sites of the host atoms in the crystal lattice.Example: Cu-Ag, Cu-Zn, Pb- Sn alloys etc.
These solids have low thermal and electrical conductivities than pure elements. They are hard and strong. And so they are also called as alloys.
