This crackling sound is produced because the particles of sweater get charged by rubbing and when we take our sweater off it is again rubbed and sound is produced.

During winters we wear a sweater to keep us warm. However, while removing it, we hear a crackling sound. This sound is caused because the electric discharge occurs between the sweater and our body.

  • Friction occurs between the body and the sweater while removing it.
  • This causes the electrons from the body to shift onto the sweater.
  • There is an act of transferring the electrons which results in a spark.
  • Although the spark is small and insignificant it emits heat, light, and produces sound.
