Higher plants and animals too perform anaerobic respiration:

  • During intense working and activity sometimes there is a lack of oxygen takes place in the muscles of some higher group of multicellular organisms.
  • During this stage when there is a lack of oxygen but the body needs energy the cells of the body starts doing the anaerobic respiration.
  • It is the respiration without oxygen to prepare the extra amount of energy required due to which certain amount of lactic acid is produced as a byproduct.
  • The presence of this acid in the body between the muscles can cause a lot of pain.
  • The intensity of pain depends on the intensity of activity that has been done and the amount of respiration that has produced lactic acid.
