Answer:

The story "The Face on the Wall" by E. V. Lucas is quite short and very captivating. It narrates the experience of a guest who was staying in an old house in Great Ormond Street. During one such stay, he noticed that the damp walls had discoloured patches on them. One particular patch resembled a human face. The storyteller began to search for the real man or someone who looked like the face on the wall.

The irony of the story is that the story teller said that he would narrate an occurrence which happened to him personally but in the end he said he had made up the story just half an hour ago. It was not a true story but an imaginary one.

Some do it for entertainment to make others happy and forget about the situations and others who are attention seekers do it for personal gain and can reach any heights. Both ways it's wrong as it might tarnish someone’s personality or lead to serious damage.
