  • Sometimes there is depletion in oxygen level in the surroundings.
  • Due to this, the body gets deprived of oxygen.
  • But, oxygen is necessary for proper functioning of the body.
  • Hence, sometimes animals perform anaerobic respiration due to lack of oxygen to fulfill their metabolism to some extent.
  • The energy produced in this case is very less, about 2 ATP, but it proves to be helpful for the animal.

Example :- Muscle cells of animals and humans perform anaerobic respiration during heavy exercise to maintain oxygen level in the body, due to which we feel tired.
