Keats has rightly said,'A thing of beauty is a joy forever; is loveliness increases;' I had my first soul touching experience of the beauty of nature in Rishikesh. I got an-out-of-the-blue invitation from a distant friend to accompany him to a monastery situated on the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh. I readily grabbed the opportunity. The lone drive from Ludhiana to Rishikesh was just as ordinary as any other long drive. However, the supernal communion with the beauty started at the monastery. We stayed there for three days in the lap of nature. Just a few meters away, down the escarpment, gurgled the Ganges over her stony course. Each morning, my friend and I took bath in the bone-chilling waters of the holy river. The sunrise from behind the mountain beyond the river always held me riveted. I would watch the mellow orange sun rise slowly over the mountain edge.
One day my friend and I took a stroll upstream along the bank of the river. It was then I came to know the enormity of the grandeur of the beauty of the river. At certain places, where the copious current of the water fell down from the huge boulders in green sparkling stream, left me spellbound and mesmerized with its formidable beauty. Some swashbuckling adventurer rafting in those rapids made me wonder at their mad joy! I saw some foreigners sitting on jetties constructed quite farther into the river. They sat there, their feet dangling into the healing water. It was there on the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh my soul drank the nectar of beauty. I was completely transformed after that experience. The treasure of peace and tranquility I had from there has never run out till today!
