Sonu and Monu live in two different cities which are 145 km apart. They both start traveling in their cars at the same time. If they drive in opposite directions they would meet in 8 hours but if they drive in the same direction the faster person would catch up with the slower one in 24 hours. Find the ratio of the speed of the faster person to the slower person?

Speed of sonu will be 12.08 km/hr and speed of monu will be 6.04 km/hr

Explanation:

We have given distance between two cities = 145 km

Let the speed of Sonu is v_s and speed of Monu is v_m

When they travel in opposite direction they meet in 8 hour

Relative speed when they travel in opposite direction is v_s+v_m

So v_s+v_m=\frac{145}{8}=18.125km/hr--------eqn 1

And when travel in same direction they meet after 24 hour

So v_s-v_m=\frac{145}{24}=6.041km/hr-----eqn 2

Now adding eqn 1 and eqn 2

2v_s=24.165

v_s=12.08km/hr

Putting the value of v_s in equation 1

v_m=6.04km/hr
