✰ Sonu bought 5 liters of oil.

✰ Vijay bought 500 ml of oil.

To find:

✠ The ratio of quantities of oil bought by Sonu to oil bought by Vijay.

Solution:

Ratio:

A ratio is a comparison by division of two quantities with the same units.

  • In the ratio, the two quantities must be of same kind or units.
  • A ratio has no units
  • It is a pure number.

In the ratio x:y, x is called the first term or antecedent and y is called the second term or consequent.

Here, in this question we will compare the two quantities given to us but first we will convert 5 liters into ml so that the units are same, the we will find the ratio of quantities of oil bought by Sonu to oil bought by Vijay.

⇾1 l = 1000 ml

⇾5 l = 5 × 1000 ml

⇾5000 ml

Ratio = Oil bought by Sonu/Oil bought by Vijay

➤ Ratio = 5000/500

➤ Ratio = 50/5

➤ Ratio = 10/1

➤ Ratio = 10:1 [ read as '10 is to 1' ]

The ratio of quantities of oil bought by Sonu to oil bought by Vijay is 10:1

Here, 10 is the first term or antecedent and 1 is the second term or consequent.
