Sophia visited a fish farm last week to learn about different fish species. She saw an empty fish tank which had a base of 60 cm x 40 cm and there were 4 cubes of side 15 cm in it. A water pipe that runs at 600 ml per minute took 200 minutes to fill the tank fully. How many litres of water must be removed so that the water level in the tank becomes 16.6 cm?

Answer:

93.66

Step-by-step explanation:

Amount of water added = 600 ml x 200 = 120 000 ml = 120 000 cm3

Volume of 4 cubes inside = 4 x 15 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm = 13 500 cm3

13 500 + 120 000 = 133 500 cm3

Height of water level = 133 500 ÷ (60 x 40) = 55.625 cm

Volume of removed water = (55.625 - 16.6) x 60 x 40 = 93 660 cm3 = 93.66 litres

93.66 litres of water must be removed.
