The answer is

10 \frac{75}{100} feet

GIVEN

Length of each string that Sophie has

 = 5 \frac{1}{4} feet

Length of each string that Cooper has

 = 3 \frac{7}{8} feet

TO FIND

Estimate how much more string Sophie has than Cooper has.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

Number of strings that Sophie has = 5

Length of each string = 5 (1/4) feet = (20+1)/4 = 21/4 feet

Total length of strings that sophie has =

 = \frac{21}{4} \times 5 = 26.25feet

Length of each string that Cooper has = 3 (7/8) feet = 31/8 feet

Nunber of strings = 4

Total length of the strings = 31/8 × 4 = 15.5 feet.

Length of string Sophie has = 26.25 - 15.5 = 10.75 feet.

Converting 10.75 feet into mixed fraction

 = 10 \frac{75}{100} feet

Hence, The answer is

10 \frac{75}{100} feet
