In the fourteenth century, Amir Khusrau used the word "Hind" perhaps because the areas of
North India were next to Sindh where the Indus river flows. But Babur, the founder of the
Mughal dynasty in India, used the term in the sixteenth century to describe the geography of
the subcontinent and culture of the people. One thing is very clear that the term
Hindustan did
not include the entire country at that time as it does today.
