No sound cannot travel in a vacuum. It needs air so that it can propagate and reach human ear by which we listen it.

Hey dude,

Sound needs a medium to travel. Suggest a reason.

❦That's because sound is a mechanical wave.

❦In contrast, electromagnetic waves require no medium, but can still travel through one.

❦Since a vacuum is defined as lacking a medium, then sound and correspondingly, mechanical waves, cannot propagate through a vacuum.

❦This is why we can't hear voices or sounds in space.

Can sound travel in Vaccum?

❦But it seems that in some circumstances, sound can jump between objects in a vacuum after all.

❦Sound waves are travelling vibrations of particles in media such as air, water or metal.

❦So it stands to reason that they cannot travel through empty space, where there are no atoms or molecules to vibrate.
