Sound waves A & B are travelling in two different media. Find which wave will [2] be travelling faster, when:
(i) A is travelling in water and B is travelling in CO2.
(ii) A is travelling in CO2 and B is travelling in hydrogen
Also support your answers with reasons

(i) Water

(ii) CO2

- Speed of the sound depends on density of the medium through which it travels.

- Higher the density higher the speed of sound.

- If we arrange given media by descending order of density -

Water > CO2 > H2

Case I -

- As density of water is more than that of CO2, sound will travel faster in water.

Case II -

- As density of CO2 is more than that of H2, sound will travel faster in CO2.
