Answer:

Sound waves travel from air to water. The velocity of the sound waves in the air is 332 m/s and the wavelength is 2m. If the wavelength of the sound waves in water is 850 cm, Its velocity in water will be 1411\ m/s

Explanation:

  • Let f be the frequency and \lambda be the wavelength of the wave produced by a source then, we have the expression for velocity (v) as,

        v=f \lambda      ...(1)

        Since the source of the wave is the same, the frequency of waves  produced in water and air will have the same value.

In the question, it is given that,

the wavelength of sound in air        =   2.0\ m

the velocity of sound in air               =    332\ m/s

Using equation(1),

frequency of sound,

f =  \frac{v}{\lambda}  = \frac{332}{2.0} =166 Hz

Given,

wavelength in water             =    850.0\ cm = 8.50\ m

The velocity of sound in water = 8.50\times 166 = 1411\ m/s
