Sources of fresh water : Ice sheets, ice caps, glaciers, icebergs, bogs, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and even underground water called groundwater. This is about 2.5% of  all the fresh water on /in the earth.

Salt water found abundantly in oceans and seas can be desalinated and used as Dubai does. However, it is an expensive process.

68.7 % of this fresh water is frozen, which again can be melted and used but it creates an imbalance in nature because if a part of the mass of an object is taken away it will heat up faster.

30.1 % of the fresh water is underground which are not necessarily underground streams but also just moist/wet mud.

That leaves 0.0003 % of water on earth, 20.58% of that are rivers and lakes which are usable.
