The south west monsoon blows over Indian subcontinent from the months July to September. A low pressure develops over the land and there is high pressure over the sea. Due to the triangular shape of peninsular India, the winds get divided into two branches ---- The Arabian Sea branch and the Bay of Bengal Branch. The weather is hot and humid at this time. The Arabian sea branch winds bring heavy rainfall in the western coast of the Western Ghats and the bay of Bengal branch winds bring heavy rainfall to the windward side of the Garo, Khasi and the Jaintia hills , in Cherrapunji

during the end of summer due to uneven heating of Earth's surface a wind flow pattern forms around the world. so the wind that blows from the Arabian sea and Indian ocean Carries heavy cloud or rain with it. when it reaches the south region of India it precipitates and rains on that region . this is known as southwest monsoon.
