The growth of vegetation depends upon the amount sunlight and rainfall received by the region. The northern slope of the Himalayan region lie at a very high altitude which makes this region covered with snow for major part of the year which is not conducive for vegatation whereas the southern slopes of the Himalaya receive heavy rainfall due to the south west monsoon winds which travel west along the southern slopes.
