Hypogeal Germination: In this type of germination, the epicotyl elongates and the cotyledons remain below the soil.

a) Epigeal germination: Here during seed germination, the cotyledons are brought above the ground due to the elongation of hypocotyl. This type of germination is seen in many dicotlyledons like sunflower, castor, bean etc.
