The blue color of the sky is a result of this scattering process. At night, when that part of Earth is facing away from the Sun, space looks black because there is no nearby bright source of light, like the Sun, to be scattered.

Answer:

SPACE BEYOND THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE  :

Basically space is nothing but vacuum. It does not contain any type of matter except of celestial bodies like stars, planets, asteroids etc.

Extra knowledge :

space is cold.

  • Even though sun ray's are there in space, but they do not radiate heat since heat needs a medium to radiate.(sun's rays after entering the earth's surface change into heat energy)

space is dark.

  • since their is no surface for light to perform multiple reflections (celestial bodies are there but they are really far away hence they are not sufficient for multiple reflections), therefore space is dark.
  • in case of astronauts, they cannot see each other in space unless at a certain angle

blue sky :

Blue light is scattered in all directions by the tiny molecules of air in Earth's atmosphere. Blue is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time. ... Also, the surface of Earth has reflected and scattered the light.
