Actual weight of astronaut = mg

We have to find upward acceleration of space vehicle so that apparent weight of astronaut become 2mg.

◈ When the space vehicle is accelerated up, then the apparent weight is more than the actual weight of the body.

Apparent weight of body when the space vehicle moves upward with acceleration a is given by

  • Wapp = m(g + a)

➝ Wapp = m(g + a)

➝ 2mg = mg + ma

➝ ma = mg

a = g

Hence, upward acceleration of space vehicle is g.
