a) The 0.5% solution of sodium or potassium cyanide is used for the leaching of silver metal.4Ag + 8NaCN + 2H2O + O2 → 4Na[Ag(CN)2] + 4NaOH Sod. dicyanoargentate

(b) CO will be a better reducing agent at the lower temperature range in the blast furnace to extract iron from the oxide ore because in Ellingham diagram the CO2 line lies below Fe, FeO line. Hence CO reduces Fe2O3, Fe3O4, FeO etc.FeO + CO 1123K−→−−− Fe + CO2

Hope this helps you ❤️☑️

4Ag + 8NaCN + 2H2O + O2 → 4Na[Ag(CN)2] + 4NaOH Sod. dicyanoargentate (1)

(b) CO will be a better reducing agent at the lower temperature range in the blast furnace to extract iron from the oxide ore because in Ellingham diagram the CO2 line lies below Fe, FeO line. Hence CO reduces Fe2O3, Fe3O4, FeO etc.

FeO + CO 1123K−→−−− Fe + CO2
