Explanation:
I was pretty young when my grandfather died, but I have an uncle born in the 1930s, and he had a lot to tell regarding their lives back in the days:
What was their profession during those times?
My grandfather was born in 1896. He was a medical doctor and held a role with a district administration of the Central Provinces. He was often posted in rather far-off regions in what is now Madhya Pradesh. Roads in that region sucked and there was a constant problem of tiger attacks and bandit raids.
My grandmother? Well, my grandfather had three wives over his lifetime. The first died young of disease, the second one gave birth to 3 children before her death, of whom only two survived. The third wife (my grandmother) bred my father and his siblings, a total of 7 kids. She died when my father was 5.
On my mother's side, the details are less clear. My grandfather was also a doctor, but not affiliated with any institution. He moved to a cantonment town in UP hoping to get his practice going but it never worked out. My grandmother had 7 surviving kids, my mother being the eldest girl.
