A red blood cell(RBCs) have special characteristics in aiding it to carry more oxygen:
1) A biconcave shape:increases Surface area to volume ratio i.e enables more oxygen to be absorbed.
2) No nucleus: enables more space to be occupied by oxygen
3)Haemoglobin: a red pigment made up of iron which loosely combines with oxygen to make=oxyhaemoglobin. This is the “passenger seat” for the oxygen.Whereas the RBC is the “bus” .
