Special type of faster memory is called 'Registers'.

Short notes on Registers:

(i) It is the fastest memory which is resided in the Central processing unit.

(ii) It is used for storing the next address which is to be fetched etc.

(iii) They are named (or) numbered depending upon the processor design and language rules.

(iv) It is used to perform any kind of mathematical operations as storage address. Without Registers CPU will not perform in workable amount of time.

(v) They are categorized as:

(a) DR  ---- Data Register

(b) AR  ---- Address Register

(c) AC  ---- Accumulator

(d) IR  ---- Instruction Register
