1. Connective tissue proper- can be further categorised as loose connective tissue and dense connective tissue( as in tendons).

Classification made based on presence of ground substance and fibrous tissue.

2. Specialized connective tissue- consists of bone, cartilage, adipose tissue, reticular connective tissue and blood.
