When Rama wanted to construct the bridge,Ramar Palam to Sri Lanka, he had to take mud from 14 holy places from all over the country ,and the fourth place was from this village called Appanoor. Another intresting incident is that when Rama came to Appanoor,he brought two elephants with him,and both the elephants died in the same village when he had to do pooja and collect the mud. Ramar had to burry both the elephants in the same village and he converted the burial place of his elephants into beautiful lakes..it is called periya kammai and chinna kammai respectively..the lake is there even today and it is a source of drinking water to that village..
When VP Singh wanted to build the Ramar temple in Ayodhya , he had to take the holy mud from the 14 stalam /places as Ramar did and as the fourth place he visited Appanoor to collect the mud.
The reason why Appanoor is considered as a holy place,punidha stalam has a rich history behind it..the village is both blessed and cursed at the same time
