Good morning Ladies and Gentleman,
It is a great honour and privilege to stand here in the open air breathing in the beauty of our dear Mother Land without anyone to restrict our actions.
We are living in our own lands with our heads held high with pride and independence. But this independence was dearly earned by some of the greatest men and women of our country.
A salute to all of them and their immortal leader-Our Father of the Nation-Mahatma Gandhi.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, another living legend, had given Gandhiji this sobriquet-Bapuji-Father of the Nation.
Gandhiji loved his countrymen like a loving Father.
In this diverse land of ours with its variegated culture Gandhiji honoured and preserved the secularism of the Nation.
He built the Nation on the bricks of non-violence , passive resistance and tolerance.
He did away with the heinous practice of Untouchability. It is because of him that we have a proper system of Sanitation.
We shall always be indebted to Gandhiji for giving us a tolerant and independent India.
It is for his magnanimity that the great Nobel Laureate- Rabindranath Tagore gave him the title-Mahatma-the great soul. For Gandhiji's dedication and determination towards building our Nation on the grounds of non-violence Tagore wrote the famous song, 'If no one responds to your call, walk alone,'.
On this morn we hail the great soul , our pride-the one and only Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, our beloved Mahatma.
