SPEECH DEMOCRACY HAS FAILED TO FULFIL THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE IN INDIA
Answers
Democracy is a rule 'of the people' by the people' and 'for the people'. The representatives of the people carry on the work of administration. For an ideal democracy both the rulers and the ruled should be responsible. The people should make the right choice of representatives. The rulers are supposed to implement policies for the welfare of the people since they have been chosen by the people.
But in India there are political parties which mislead, misinform and misguide the electorate. Issues are distorted, facts are falsified, appeals are made to emotions and false and utopian promises are made by them.
There are unhealthy political compromises and coalitions are formed giving up all principles. Privileges and power are distributed among the supporters instead of being given to those who deserve them. It breeds corruption like 'spoils system' and 'lobbying'.
Genuine people generally do not like to go through the botheration of elections and political tricks. While the opportunists and self seekers succeed easily. So the capable people are pushed behind.
The ignorant and simple masses are exploited by the rich classes and political leaders. The people are subjected to the rule of the numerous rather than the rule of the wise.
The media has a lot of power. The media informs the people about various issues. It can swing the views of the voters. Numerous election campaigns have won or lost depending on the stance taken by the mass media. Media can easily falsify facts or glorify wrong things. So ultimately the representative who come to power are the one's who can influence the media. There can be no guarantee that the government consists of able and sincere representatives.
The actions of the immoral central government are toppling state government. For example Uttarakhand was brought under President's Rule saying that there was a Constitutional breakdown due to the rebellion in the ruling Congress. President Pranab Mukherjee signing a proclamation under Art 356 of the Constitution dismissed the Congress government headed by Harish Rawat and placed the Assembly under suspended animation on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet.
The Congress denounced the decision and called it a 'murder of democracy' and a 'black' day.
The leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it was a blatant and brazen display of authoritarian, anti democratic and anti Constitutional mindset of the Modi government. He said that earlier a Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh had also been toppled by sheer abuse of power and money.
Harish Rawat said the he had a clear majority in the state assembly and the imposition of President's Rule was part of a conspiracy by the BJP.
In this way we see that Democracy has failed to fulfil the needs of the people of India.
