ndia has frequently been subjected to horrors of famine. From 1858 to the end of the 19th century, more than twenty famines occurred in India.

A major characteristic of British rule in India, and the net result of British economic policies, was the prevalence of extreme poverty among its people. While historian disagree on the question whether India was getting poorer or not under British rule, there is no disagreement on the fact that throughout the period of British rule most Indians always lived on the verge of starvation.

British economic exploitation, the decay of indigenous industries, the failure of modern industries to replace them, high taxation, the drain of wealth to Britain and a backward agrarian structure leading to the stagnation of agriculture and the exploitation of the poor peasants by the zamindars, landlords, princes, moneylenders, merchants and the state gradually reduced the Indian people to extreme poverty and prevented them from progressing.

Indian women have been unique and extremely talented since ancient times. The past is studded with their deeds of glories and feats. The contemporary times are painted with their success stories. They have achieved a new height in all the fields. They have already proved their mettle in all the spheres of life. Space exploration, research and development, science and medicine, politics, financing, management, education, and whatnot, women have set higher standards than men.

Indian women have always been exceptionally talented. They have contributed equally in bettering the society since ancient times. However, their recent success stories have been quite impressive! Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams, Mary Com, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Sushmita Sen, Bhakti Sharma, Arunima Sinha, Harshini Kanhekar, the list is endless. Indian women are stunning the world with their extraordinary talents.

There are other great women around the world like Jane Austen, an English literary writer, whose novels are so famous that the 10-pound note has her picture. Then, Florence Nightingale, who is a legendary nurse. She served in the Crimean War as a nurse and took good care of the soldiers. Then others like Marie curie, who has won 2 Nobel prizes based on her research on radioactivity.

In conclusion, it can be said that anyone who thinks ‘it is and will always be a man's world’ is either ill-informed or is biased. The facts tell a different tale. The present and the future belong to women alone!
