speech of protection of ozone layer
Answers
Answer:
The theme for this year is “A Healthy Atmosphere-the Future We Want.” The
International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is observed on 16 September every
year since 1995. This date has been chosen by the United Nations General Assembly in its
resolution to remember the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987.
The ozone layer is a natural part of our atmosphere. It acts like a protective sun screen by
blocking harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. Certain chemicals—such as CFCs, HCFC,
and halons—can damage the ozone layer. These can cause holes to form in the layer and
allow more UV rays to reach the earth’s surface. As a result of ozone depletion there will be
increase in earth’s temperature, melting of glaciers, cancerous diseases, rise in the level of
ocean and many more.
Our Queen Azhi Jetsun Pema-the ozone diplomat of Bhutan is still working very hard to have
a well protected ozone layer. Therefore in fulfilling her Majesty’s dream of keeping ozone
layer safe, there are many and simple ways in which we can save our ozone layer.
~Avoid buying and using aerosols and sprays made up of CFC.
~Avoid using fire extinguishers which destroy the ozone layer.
~ .Choose to buy a refrigerator or AC without CFC.
~Use alternative means of transport: buses, bicycles, or simply walk or carpool.
~ Follow 4R’s policy-reduce, reuse, refuse and recycle things at home and school
~Buy energy saving gadgets and bulbs
All of us can contribute to the protection of the environment. Before demanding politicians to
implement policies to protect the ozone layer, let’s begin ourselves doing something for the
environment.
Lastly let’s this well-known phrase “Any long trip begins with a first step” be part of our
