Answer:
Crime against senior citizens
Good morning everyone present. I am going to expatiate on ‘Crime against senior citizens’. It is a very pathetic fact but it is true. Crimes against senior citizens have increased. According to a reliable government data there is 40% increase against senior citizens in the country.
In 2015 as many as 20,532 cases of crimes against senior citizens across India, were reported. The states that top the list are: Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
All types of crimes such as looting, burgling, chain snatching, and murdering against them have increased. Domestic violence against them is also on the rise. The worst challenge for them is their own children turning their backs on them. The number of old people being sent to old age homes is constantly growing. According to reliable data, there has been 69 % increase in the residents of old-age homes in the last four years.
On social media videos of discarded parents crying for help are quite frequently uploaded. Seeing the elderly in miserable state pains the heart. It is sad to see the elderly being discarded like this by their own children! Do these children forget all the love, financial help, education, nurturing, etc. they had received from their parents?
It is very unfortunate that in some families, the elderly are not given due respect and treated badly. They are discarded by their own children for petty things in life. Such lonely elderly people have to take shelter in old age homes. We must not forget that homes cease to be sweet homes without the elderly. The elderly people have all the valuable experience and wisdom with them. We must use it to make our life better. Besides, the kind of unconditional love we get from them, no other person or being can give us that type of love.
I strongly feel the Government must pass new laws to ensure safety and security to the senior citizens.
