The proverb stresses the importance of saying good words which cost us nothing, but may be of help to others. We can help others in many ways. We can give financial help to others; help others to do their work, and so on. But we can also help others through our good words. It costs us nothing but only our good will and sincerity. A word of encouragement, a word of sympathy or even a word of advice will be of great help. It may do more good than a financial help. Our good words are of great value to others. Many people have profited from the words of encouragement someone has said. If a teacher encourages a student who solves a mathematical problem in a different way, it may inspire that student to become a mathematician later on. A person who is in utter misery may find great relief when someone tells him a word of sympathy. Our good words about a person may inspire him to attain greater heights in life. As good words are worth a lot, bad words can harm and destroy others. Wounds may heal. But the wounds made by bad words will not heal. If our good words cost us nothing and at the same time are of great help to others, we should not be miserly in speaking them.......

It is true people like or hate you according to the words you speak. A man or woman of great impeccable character always speaks encouraging, soothing, inspirational, positive, and constructive words. The words we speak determine our success or failure in life.

All the great men and women, whom we revere as our role models, have been speakers of good words. They spoke wise hopeful and motivating words to the mankind. There words are always in demand in the form of books. For example, J.K. Rowling ‘s books on Harry Potter have been best sellers just because of the  golden words she wrote in those books. The Bible, The Prophet, and other great books that sell the most in the world are full of golden words of wisdom.

Similarly, if we speak and write golden words, we are considered agreeable by everyone. People like us; they support us and love to interact with us. On the other hand, if we speak angry words or confusing or abusive words, we repel people from us.

The art of speaking golden words is acquired with lots of hard-work, experience, and self-control. We have to develop it carefully. However, there is no spending of money involved. Only refinement of thoughts, feelings, and enrichment of vocabulary is required.

It is quite true ‘golden words cost nothing but pay back a lot.
