Dolphins are enchanting creatures that are habilitated predominantly in the seas and oceans and sometimes in rivers too. They are highly intelligent mammals that are part of the family of toothed whales that includes orca and pilot whales. They are carnivores and their diet consists of chiefly fish and squid. According to the IUCN Red List, the dolphins were last assessed in June of 2018. The number of mature individuals is not listed, however, it is expected that they are on a declining trend as they face many threats. They have been listed as an “endangered” species. Now that we know these beautiful animals are endangered, what can we do to contribute to the movement of saving dolphins?
First and foremost, we need to start thinking about their habitats. The oceans and seas are greatly contaminated. We need to start conserving water and not waste it blindly, as water is a precious resource, and houses not just dolphins, but hundreds of thousands of marine life species. Reduce - Reuse – Recycle - Rethink - Respond; we should start bringing our reusable grocery totes. If you must buy disposables, buy paper products rather than plastic or Styrofoam. The manufacture of Styrofoam depletes the ozone layer.
Humans should start volunteering their time into conservation programs. Maybe participate in stream and beach cleaning programs, and become more involved in environmental issues. We can also start reducing air pollution, ride a bike or walk more often. Or at least drive a more gas efficient car.
Our choices can make a difference!
