India has turned 70 this week. I would like to congratulate everybody present over here. We have managed to protect our hard-earned freedom in all these years against those who wish to see us down. Our forefathers would be a happy lot if not proud.
in these 70 years, we have moved on from an infant democracy to being the world's largest democracy. Many of our neighbors started on the same plank as we had, yet we have managed to strive ahead against all odds. In these 70 years, India has managed many successful fears that has to be lauded . We are a power House of Engineers, Doctors, Software engineer, Talented multidiverse human resource. We are well known in the world around for our commitment to peace and Non Violence, the path shown by Mahatma. When the world was divided in camps, it was India who showed the world a third way of Non aligned and saved the small countries in being the pawns of bigger countries. We have lifted the greatest proportion of our population around 240 million people out of poverty while being a democracy. India is the world's fastest growing economy and this century is declared as Asia's century where the world pivot itself again in Asia with India and China leading the way. We have been to Mars in our very first attempt , a feat which no country can boast of. it is the cheapest Mars mission ever recorded in the entire history We launched 110 satellite in a single launch which is the highest for any country. Our Bollywood industry has fans world over . it has generated a lot of interest for India and is a great asset to our soft power. We have the second largest standing army in the world and we have achieved nuclear status so that now we can talk with other countries in equal parity.
despite all these achievement, there is still widespread corruption, declining moral values among police, increase of crimes against women, skewered sex ratio, casteism , regionalism, lack of quality education, medical facilities, unemployment ....and the list goes on and on. These are still the problems that we as a nation have to find a solution for.
India is not a perfect democracy, but we are aspiring to be one. No hurdle is big untill we stop trying. And India as a country is moving toward it. Our late president Shri A.P.J kalam had set a target for making India developed by 2020. We are well on our way to fulfill his wishes and I aspire to be among the first generation of a Developed India.
thank you all
