These famous lines were said by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru moments before our independence. Seeing India as an independent bird that was no longer bounded by the cage of slavery and prejudice was a dream of all the freedom fighters. Independent India was not a gift offered to us in a golden plate. It was a result of the consistent efforts of the mostly unknown and forgotten martyrs. Many of them knew they would die before independence and would not be able to see Independent India. But, they were still ready to sacrifice themselves so that we may live a comfortable life, free from the bonds of slavery. Since we were born in independent India, we do not realize the life our ancestors led for over 200 years.
After several revolts and sacrifices from the revolt of 1857 to 1947, India finally achieved independence. On 15thAugust 1947, the blood and sacrifices of the millions of martyrs finally bore fruit.British India finally became independent India.
Since then, India has been striving for excellence in all fields. It has the fastest growing economy and is the birthplace of one of the greatest minds the world has ever seen. Today the world is thankful to India for all the precious discoveries it has given to this world from the beginning of time. We all must also strive towards excellence so that this wonderful nation remains the centre of technology and traditions forever.
