Who among you still read a newspaper in our generation? Maybe few of you or others don’t at all. These few people read newspaper maybe because it’s required as homework, or maybe just a past time when there’s nothing reading materials available around. Who among you would read it just because or to be updated in the daily news? Well, I bet very few. Most of us prefer reading online. Well of course most of us would choose to surf online. Phone, tablet, laptop, or computer at home is more accessible than having a newspaper on your hand. Not only you can read something that has a visual aide to boost your readings, but you can also surf other sites besides the news. Hassle free, right?
In my entire existence, I honestly know that I only have a handful of times viewing a newspaper. I remember I’ll only view the comic sections. Maybe I’m bored by the too plain texts that the newspapers have. Or less images that would make the articles interesting. Or I just don’t do many readings because it’s not my thing. But, if that’s online, I would read it. Let’s face it, science and technology has a big contribution in our easy life nowadays. In just one click you’re already updated. You don’t have to buy newspapers and keep it inside your bag. In just a click, you can have all the updates and information you want to know about something happened in a particular day. You won’t need a pile of papers to keep in your home because you already have your laptop or phone set to read news.
But social responsibility speaking, of course we know nowadays that people are either unemployed or underemployed. Unfortunately, those who did not finish their studies are the ones who usually sell newspapers. Your heart will melt, right?, knowing that only few of them would be able to sell due to public hesitation to buy a newspaper. Only those who were below the mid-class or the street workers (PUV Drivers, Carpenters, Farmers, etc.) would be their customer to buy their newspapers. The senior citizens too, our lolos and lolas, are also the ones who would still want buy it. Those who we know that are not really into using modern gadgets and technology. Maybe few of them are like “lola tech-ie (techy? Whatever! It’s in the PLDT TV Commercial), that would want to read online these days.
Let’s not forget about the environment. Obviously we know that these newspapers came from trees, trees that our planet needs now. We know to ourselves that the decrease of the production of these newspapers would be a great help to save our environment. It would be a small step but a big change in the future, right? If many of us would recycle these newspapers, we could help our environment to breathe.
Talking about its few cons, or disadvantages, maybe it’s just some of the news online are not reliable. And also the radiation to our eyes if we stay longer reading the updates, or surfing the net while reading the news (cliché, right? But it’s true!). But counting all of its pros and advantages, you know there’s more. As easy as it’s handy, you can always search for everything in just a click. You can save files directly in your gadget. In short, all of the newspaper’s content is in the internet in just a few clicks. Not only you won’t have to feel hassle bringing a pile with you, you can help save our trees as well.
It’s not that internet kills the newspapers. Truth is, Internet helps people to have an easy access on everything and it helps the decrease the cutting of trees. And about the labor of those who sell it as their sidelines, I believe that there are still many jobs that they can try aside from selling newspapers. Also, people will more likely hear voices from internet than in printed.

Well for me it’s not really a “death” of the newspaper. It’s kind of rebirth. An innovation. An Improvement of something. A level-up from one stage to another. A better window for a new generation.
