Answer:

Martyrs' Day is observed annually by around 22 nations to give respect to the soldiers who lost their lives defending the sovereignty of the nation. In India, Martyr's Day, commonly known as Shaheed Divas, is celebrated every year on January 30 and March 23 to pay tribute to the victims who fought for the freedom, glory, welfare and progress of India. On this day, the Nation observes two minutes of silence and honors all freedom fighters’ contributions during the Indian Freedom Movement.

On the 30th of January, 1948, the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated at Gandhi Smriti in the Birla House during the evening prayers by Nathuram Godse. The Government of India then made the decision of announcing the day as Martyr's Day. In some parts of India, March 23 is also celebrated as Martyr's Day because on this day Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar were hanged to death by the British in 1931.

These young men of India took a different path from Bapu but it was all for the welfare of the country they loved. Bhagat Singh and his companions continue to be a source of inspiration for the young minds of India. Hence to pay homage to these three revolutionaries Martyr's Day is celebrated on the 23rd of March as well.

On Martyrs Day, the President of India, along with the Prime Minister and Defence Minister of India, gather on January 30, at the Rajghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. They pay homage and tribute through a garland of flowers to the statue of Gandhiji.

This action is followed by an honourable salute by India’s armed forces personnel and inter-services contingent to pay reverence and homage to all the Martyr of our country. A two-minute silence is observed nationwide by schools, colleges, offices, communities, and places of religious significance across the country to revere the tribute of the sacrifices of all our Freedom Fighters.

Other activities are also taken part in, such as:

  • In the Academic level, various quiz completion and similar activities are observed.
  • Social Media runs a campaign of Shaheed Diwas Memorial by pictures, messages, and quotes on youth icons of Modern history.
  • News Shows based on the life journey of Bhagat Singh and other martyred are telecasted.
  • Movies and documentaries based on young revolutionaries of India are telecasted on television.
  • Shaheedi Mela is a major event that is organized on Hussainwalla.

Other than January 30 and March 23 Martyrs' Day or Shaheed Diwas is also celebrated on different days in different places:

  • The first freedom fighter falls on January 30, the day. Nathuram Godse assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.
  • The second Martyr’s day is observed on March 23, to observe the death anniversaries of freedom fighters Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru, who were executed and Bhagat Singh, who was given capital punishment.
  • The third fall of Martyr’s day is on October 21 annually, which marks the ambush of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party at the Indo-Tibetan border in Ladakh by the Chinese forces. On this day, a nationwide observance is initiated by the Police Department known as the Police Martyr’s Day.
  • The fourth fall of Martyr’s Day falls on November 17 to mark the death anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai, also known as the “Lion of Punjab,” another well-known Freedom fighter.
  • The final day of Martyr’s Day is commemorated on November 19, which marks Rani Lakshmibai as it was the day she was born and honours the lives of those fighters during the rebellion of 1857, also known as the First War of Indian Independence.

Paying tribute to those who have laid their lives for our well being and are the reason that our nation thrives today is an honour, and should be considered as such. And so I conclude my speech for today with a quote by Mahatma Gandhi,

"Let us all be brave enough to die the death of a martyr, but let no one lust for martyrdom."

A speech should be at least a minute long (in my opinion) so sorry if this was a bit too extended. Hope I could help!
