Mahatma Gandhi is the "Father of Our Nation". The life history of Bapuji has a lot of meaning and significance to us. In the childhood he was an average student like many others. He lied for a selfish purpose. He was one among many children. He was a normal lawyer working for his family until the infamous incident in South Africa turned his life, India's future and the whole world into an unprecedented ideology.
The name of Gandhiji stands for purity, truth, ethics, justice, secularity, cleanliness, self-reliability , peace, equality, courage, patience and humanity. Gandhiji's vision about education is very good and applicable to today's India. His vision was to create activity based learning among kids and children. He wished for an all round character development of discipline, conduct, ethics along with education that is useful to the society. That will ensure students to be true citizens of the society. He wished that traditions of India
The name Mahatma stands for equality of religions and secularity, peaceful coexistence of all people of India. Mahatma stands for killing of internal enemy inside the person, rather than killing of the person. His name is taken all over the world for the non-violence (ahimsa), satya, non-cooperation concepts for protesting against atrocities. Mahatma is as great as Jesus Christ and perhaps even more as Mahatma could liberate his people from slavery.
Mahatma Gandhi's views on cleanliness (swachhta) are important. It's his wish that is turned into a national campaign by Prime Minister to educate poor people of health and hygiene. A basic need such as toilets weren't within the capabilities and thoughts of the people. Truly, that name has changed the lifestyle of the bottom of the society become human from inhuman.
The name of Mahatma is still alive even after 60 years of his death proves his relevance to today's India and the world. He was the champion of harijans (untouchables). The world learnt the words ahimsa, and satya and studies in schools about them, it's him there.
In India the government machinery was treating people badly and not taking care of people's needs. Gandhiji's reply on this is an eye-opener for the service Industry. "The customer is not dependent on us (organization). We are dependent on the customer. The customer is not an interference for our job. The customer is our job." Customer satisfaction and quality are the top principles that any commercial company uses now. Gandhiji said this to all government employees interacting with people, to change their indifferent and arrogant attitude towards the public.
Till the middle of 20th century the world was always suffering from invasions and lusts for power of kings and leaders. The ideals of Mahatma Gandhi were followed in South Africa and other countries resulting in its independence. A transformation took place in the 20th century in the minds of leaders. Being voted the man of the century as he has affected billions of people and changed the course of destiny of the planet.
Gandhiji's practical lesson "Practice Before You Preach", put a stop to numerous cheats and thoughtless advisors, who took advantage of ignorant people. It showed that practicing ideals is not as easy as saying.
Finally, I end the speech saying that we need not fight for independence now. We may not dedicate ourselves completely to uplift the poor and downtrodden. While we achieve our life goals, we try to do what we can to honor his gifts to us. This we do by inculcating the humility, nobility and his values, while working for ourselves and for our family.
