Speech on superstitions are the manifestations of the weakness of the human mind
Answers
Answer:
Superstitions, are the manifest weakness of the human mind and were created mainly to spread fear. Perhaps superstition is a kind of added and distorted belief, or practice, to some originally accurate understanding of reality. Bizarre healing rituals and practices by so-called primitives may actually have once (and still may) cured disease. So superstition may be a kind of eroded, or weak and distorted 'truth'. Superstit- ion is as old as human civilisation. Even educated people tend to be influenced by superstitions. But psychologists believe that the root cause of most superstitions remains fear. "Superstitions stem from our desire to control the future," says one mythologist: "They make us do things that we might not be able to explain rationally."
Most young Indians insist they don't believe in superstitions but they still go along with them. Some do so for the sake of their parents. Others do so because of peer pressure. Seema a college student, fasts during the navaratras. She says it's because "all my friends are into fasting at that time." An Indian psychoanalyst attributes this to a yearning to belong. "In being shared, superstitions play a socially integrative function, making one feel part of a community."
It is human nature to fall prey to superstitions, says a psychiatrist. "There are many factors that are responsible - cultural and family learning, anxiety related to the important things of life, fear about the untoward, and basically the fact that everything in life is not in our control."
Beliefs and superstitions are passed down from generation to generation particularly by people belonging to Hindu community. These faiths have sprung with an objective to protect from evil spirits, but some were based on scientific reasoning. Astrology is an integral part of Indian culture. Even today many people prefer to do good things such as entering a newly made home (Gruhapravesha) , fixing a marriage proposal, fixing a marriage date, entry of a bride to her new home, starting a new business etc, according to their astrological belief. But are these not the causes of the degradation of the majority of Hindu race and have lead to softening of the brain?: In the words of Swami Vivekananda" Brain which cannot think high and noble thoughts, which has lost all power of originality, which has lost all vigour, that brain which is always poisoning itself with all sorts of little superstitions passing under the name of religion, we must beware of India can be free from superstitions only when the masses are educated and beliefs are sytematically weeded out by spiritual gurus . The best way of combating superstition is education. A radical change should be brought about in the minds of the people to curtail blind beliefs."
