In nearly all countries surveyed, a majority of Muslims say that a wife should always obey her husband. At the same time, there also is general agreement – at least outside sub-Saharan Africa – that a woman should have the right to decide for herself whether to wear a veil in public.

Muslims are less unified when it comes to questions of divorce and inheritance. The percentage of Muslims who say that a wife should have the right to divorce her husband varies widely among the countries surveyed, as does the proportion that believes sons and daughters should inherit equally.

In some, but not all, countries surveyed, Muslim women are more supportive of women’s rights than are Muslim men. Differences on these questions also are apparent between Muslims who want sharia to be the official law of the land in their country and those who do not.

• What is the role of Muslim women in society? When she is born, she is a blessing known as the door to Jannah for her parents. When she is a wife, she is half of Deen for her husband. When she is a mother, Jannah is right under her feet.

• Assalamu Alaikum. Today, I shall enlighten you with what role Muslim women play in society.

• Under Islam, women are spiritually equal to men. There have been many misconceptions about the real role of Muslim women in Islam. Many people view Islam as a religion that oppresses and suppress women, but they are wrong. Most non-Muslims who are completely unfamiliar with the teachings and belief of Islam turn to paint Islam with a brutal brush.

• From the beginning, Islam worked on creating equality among people and tried to eliminate the different barriers created by people that distinguished them from one another and let them feel superior or inferior. Islam doesn't restrict females. In family life, the man is the head of the house. However, females also have a say in things.

• Some notable Muslim women are:

Benazir Bhutto, the first female president of Pakistan

Malala Yousafzai, women’s rights activist

Khadija (RA) entrepreneur

Aisha (RA), a scholar of Islam

• Allah (SWT) stated many times in the Holy Quran, about the role of women and even dedicated a whole Surah to them (Surah An-Nisa). Allah does not distinguish the importance of men and women. To Allah, both men and women are equal as he stated in the Quran, “To whomever, male or female, does good deeds and has faith, we shall give a good life and reward them according to the best of their actions.” (Quran, 16:97). From this ayah, it can be proved that in the eyes of Allah both men and women are equal.

Therefore, Islam protects the civil liberties of women.
