Explanation:

For the students to play a role in raising the awareness about social issues, they themselves must understand the issues involved. Many such issues are multifacted and complex. Take for example the issue of Child marriages. How many of our school and college students are aware of the root causes of such a practice as Child marriage? Child marriages were common because the parents of both the children used to commit themselves to give their daughter to the son of the friend and to accept and treat her as the bride of the son. Natural Calamities, epidemics etc used to wipe of large sections of people, or fathers and elder brothers goingbfor war might not return alive, and so on. Making a safe arrangement for the future of the daughter was the main motivation behind such arrangement. But the practice ignored the possibility that the youg husband himself may become a victim of the epidemics or war etc, leaving the girl a widow at avery young age.

In Clans where cross-cousinmarriages are permited or encouraged , the logic was that another member of the same family could re-marry a young widow , without heitation , being an immediate relative. The Britishers and acquaintance with Victorian mores discouraged this practice. The logic that cross-cousin marriages led to birth of defetive children ignored two factors: one was that most such defective children were conceived before mothers reached full maturity. The other was that such marriagews produced extraordinarily briliant and very strong offsprings also as a result of polarisation effect.

Sttuedents wanting to get invove din solving Social issues should study the root causes of such issues and ponder over possible ,viable solutions before preaching to the Communities
