Butterflies are beautiful insects who mostly have brightly coloured wings. The gardens look beautiful because of the colourful butterflies. Everyone loves butterflies. They add to the beauty of nature. They are very delicate. If we touch them a powdery substance comes out from their wings. This is the thing which helps them to fly. But when this is lost they cannot fly. So we should not catch butterflies. Just like flowers should not be plucked aimlessly, similarly butterflies look beautiful frittering away in the garden rather than in captivity.

They feed primarily on nectar from flowers and some derive nourishment from pollen. They go from flower to flower. So they are important pollinators for some species of plants. They are very important for agriculture.

But nowadays there has been a decline in the population of butterflies due to deforestation, smuggling and fewer flowers. Another reason for their reduction is the use of pesticides. They lay their eggs on the leaves of plants which get destroyed by the pesticides. Many species have become extinct due to these reasons and many of them are endangered.

There is a need to create awareness about this amongst the people. Children should be discouraged from catching butterflies. The government should make strict anti smuggling laws. Less amount of pesticides should be used. So that the lovely butterflies can continue to live.
