Ego, that sweet-tasting dreamworld of perfection and significance. Just a tiny taste of it — some one-off breakthrough, an unfair advantage, an external flow of compliments, a story made-up in retrospect — is all that is needed to be addicted to it. I don’t know why it’s not labeled as an actual addiction yet! I’m not talking here about the obvious disease of egomania, but rather about the insidious, often more detrimental form of ego that ALL of us suffer from.
