Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. 250 words
Restlessly I glanced around trying to focus on the task at hand, anticipating the bang of the gun. On my right were my teammates, cheering loudly behind a fence for my victory. To my left the competition; some black, some white, some tall, some short. Despite our differences we all had one thing in common, a desire for victory. At the sharp crack of the gun I engaged my muscles and powered down the track towards an unexpected gold medal and ecstatic friends.
As a child I enjoyed something almost every other youth did, running. So when deciding which extracurricular to participate in, running track seemed natural. Running track acted like a friend who could listen forever; whenever I was going through a rough patch a run on the track cooled me down and helped me think clearly. Running helped me develop confidence and determination that I could use both on and off the track. At races I acted as a companion, cheering my teammates to victory. Other times a leader; teaching lessons of perseverance and determination as was passed down from seniors to myself. My successes gave me the exhilarating feeling of winning a race. But more importantly my failures taught me to persevere and practice my hardest, because on the starting line your ethnicity, gender, or height matter very little. Running track gave many new experiences that forever shaped the person I am today. Although I am a member of many diverse communities, I will always feel at home on the track.
Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (500 words maximum)
As a young child I remember waking up early, staying up late, even skipping a meal or two to get lost constructing my latest idea out of Lego’s in my room. Individually a single brick is nothing special, but hundreds of multicolored bricks can come together to create an infinite number of objects. One week it might be a red-striped space ship, zooming around my room. Other weeks a metallic robot or flashy car. Albert Einstein said: "Scientists investigate that which already is; Engineers create that which has never been". Growing up, my enthusiasm for building with Lego's evolved into an enjoyment for creating virtual objects through coding. The unique feeling I got from creating also built me into the person I am today: a creative teen with infinite ideas.

Speech on "Will to Win"

Good morning Respected teachers, judges and my dear friends , I am here to present my views on the topic "Will to Win".
This title brings to my mind the story of the hare and the tortoise. When the hare challenged the tortoise to a race , the tortoise knew very well that it's speed of travel was in no way comparable to that of the hare. Yet this animal agreed to race. And why , may I ask you ? Only because it had the "will to win". Come what may , the tortoise had to prove to the hare that it could win if it wanted to. And yes ! Finally the tortoise won.

This , in fact , is the driving force behind all great ventures and achievements , The Will to Win..! I remember the time when I was in Std. 5th , My father had been transferred from Agra to Bhusaval . A subject that I had trouble mastering was the language Marathi. Needless to say in the first term , I flunked very badly. But I was a student who scored high marks in all the subjects. This failure was though devastating one.

However , I did not let it faze me. I took great interest in class lessons. Read my Marathi textbooks over and over. I made my friends who spoke Marathi fluently and ventured speaking with them. At first , they poked me , made fun of me. But within a month , i had picked up the basic structure of the language and began writing answers to questions on my own. Believe it or not , At the end of the term , I topped the class in Marathi. Today , I can speak in the language as if it's my native language !!

Friends , My message to you today is that you can do anything . All you require is the will. If you have the will , the skill will follow. I wish you all the very best in whatever you decide.

Be sure that if you have the will , you will win!!

Thank you.
