Water is the most important natural resource for life. Human being needs water not only for drinking but also for cooking, washing, irrigation, fishing etc. People have been abusing and misusing water since long. Industrial wastes, garbage and other remains of used commodities have been getting dumped in rivers and oceans causing contamination of water. It is also contaminated of toxic chemicals discharged from factories, pesti­cides used in agriculture and so on.Due to the poor water supply system, contact of sewage with the water supply line contaminates water used for drinking. Contaminated water has become a serious threat to human beings, fish and the animals. The poor and less developed countries are facing greater problem of water pollution as they have dilapidated water treatment and supply system and also lack in proper waste disposal system.They dispose waste products and garbage straight away in their rivers and lakes. About one-third population of the world does not have access to safe water. A very common water-borne disease is diarrhoea, which is caused by contaminated water. It is very common in poor countries and in the segment of poor people of less developed countries.Developed countries are almost free from the problem of water pollution. Pollution of water in those countries is mainly due to the excessive use of pesticides to protect agricultural crops. Water pollution in these countries is not due to the lack of management of garbage as in the less developed countries for whom its disposal and treatment is normally unaffordable.However, the developed countries are not confronted with the problem of water contamination as much as the poor ones because they have sufficient resources and efficient technology for treatment and recycling of sewage, garbage and domestic waste.A team of researchers at Britain’s Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and experts from World Water Council introduced a new index of water-rich and water-poor countries. Five different criteria were used to construct the index: resource, access, use, capacity and environment.This water index is not congruent with the development index. For example, the US – one of the most developed countries – ranks 33rd on the water index. Experts calculate that 20 per cent of world population in 30 countries faced water shortage in 2000 which would climb to 30 per cent in a total of 50 countries by 2025.

the modern man may be proud of the progress he is making in every sphere of life. the fresh air and pure water we used to get is polluted now.this is all because of negligence and carelessness.the increasing number of factories is the one source which is causing all the 3 pollution.the waste water products of these factories go into the canals and rivers through pipelines,thus making water toxic and unfit for use.smoke from the chimneys makes the air full of dangerous gases,and noise from the machines  and sirens create sound pollution. increasing in vehicles is also one of the reason for both sound and air pollution.another main thing is deforestation.  
            a movement should be taken on a large scale to control this pollution and save mankind.and also we must grow more trees,water should be boiled before use  ,factories and heavy vehicles should not be allowed in residential area to prevent  air water and sound pollution to some extent.                  ,
