Good morning to the excellencies, respected teachers and my dear colleagues. I would like to speech on a very important topic “save water” today at this special occasion. As well all know that how the water is important for the continuation of life on the earth. It is the most basic need of everyone (human being, animal, plant and other microorganisms). Water is the unique source of life, without water we cannot imagine the life here. Life on other planets is not possible just because of the absence of water. It is considered as the most important among other known celestial bodies. Almost three-fourth area of the earth is covered by the water and it constitutes around 60-70 % of the living world. It seems that water is endless renewable source on the earth because it is regenerated and redistributed all over the earth through evaporation and rain. It arises a question in our mind that if water is renewable source then why we should worry for water and try to conserve it.

Answer:
Ways to conserve water
Water conservation is the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary water usage. Water conservation is important because fresh clean water is a limited resource and mankind, animals, birds and all all life forms need water for survival. Some ways to conserve water and prevent wasting of water are:
- Fix any leak in your toilet and shower quickly.
- Check for leaks in water pipes both inside and outside the house.
- Do not waste water by taking unnecessary long showers.
- While brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the tap when not in use.
- Rinse your vegetables in a bowl instead of washing them in a running water tap.
- Water your lawn only when it needs it and not as and when you want to.
- Plant drought-resistant trees and plants. There are many beautiful trees and plants which thrive with less water.
- Reuse the water for rinsing vegetables for watering your garden.
- Use minimum water during car wash.
- Use modern efficient irrigation systems.
- Children love to play under a hose or sprinkler on a hot day. But this practice is wasteful of precious water and should be discouraged.
Water is a finite resource. If not managed properly it will result in acute scarcity in the future. Let us conserve water for the preservation of human life and other life forms on Earth.
